As it stands it is cheaper to manufacture in countries such as China, and Apple is one of those companies who has used this to their advantage. However like we said, Trump winning the presidential race means that things will change, which is why it is not surprising to learn that Apple could be exploring the idea of bringing back manufacturing stateside.
This is according to a report from Nikkei in which they claim that Apple has spoken to their manufacturers about the possibility of setting up shop in the US. Foxconn is apparently on board with the idea, while Pegatron seems to be deadset against it. Given that Apple accounts for more than 50% of Foxconn’s sales, we guess the company doesn’t really have much of a choice.
Now as to whether or not Apple actually decides to go through with their plan remains to be seen. It could simply be that Apple is preparing themselves for the possibility that they might have to start manufacturing more of their products stateside and that they are seeing what their options are. There is no guarantee that will happen, although we can only imagine that prices of Apple’s products will be going through the roof were that to happen.
