There have been countless incidents of people shooting down drones that they felt were intruding on their privacy. Your drone is likely to meet the same fate if you’re using it to hover over someone else’s property. However, those intending to shoot down a drone need to be relatively close to it, and that can prove to be a problem. A company by the name of DroneShield has a solution to that problem in a product it calls the DroneGun which is capable of jamming drones from a range of 1.2 miles.
The DroneGun is a jammer that can disable drone signals as well as GLONASS and GPS from a range of 1.2 miles. The objective here isn’t to shoot down the drone, it’s to force the unidentified aerial vehicle to land right there or return to where it flew from.
This enables security staff to tackle drone threats remotely and they may potentially be able to locate the drone’s pilot as well. The DroneGun isn’t exactly portable as it weighs 13 pounds but can be used by one person without any technical training.
Want one? You’ll have to wait since the DroneGun hasn’t been given the green signal by the FCC as yet, so one can’t be legally operated in the United States right now. The use cases with this product are endless, though, covering bases like VIP security to ensuring that drones don’t enter the restricted airspace of an airport.
