Google released Android 7.0 Nougat a couple of months ago but it’s yet to make its way to most Android devices because OEMs typically take their time before they release major Android updates. Google has since been working on the next major update which will be called Android 7.1. The first developer preview has been out for some time now so the company has released Android 7.1 Nougat Developer Preview 2 for supported devices.
Android 7.1 Nougat Developer Preview 2 has now been released for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, and Google Pixel C tablet. These are the only devices that have support for this developer preview right now.
The company has revealed that Android 7.1.1 includes developer features that are already present on the Pixel and Pixel C handsets released recently by Google. The update also brings additional bug fixes and optimizations on top of the base Android 7.1 platform.
The first Android 7.1 Nougat Developer Preview brought support for features that were limited to the Pixel smartphones, features like image keyboards and app shortcuts. Google is yet to provide the full changelog for the second preview so it’s not really known for sure right now what’s new in the latest developer preview.
Those who wish to try the beta software will first have to sign up for the Android Beta Program. Once they are signed up, Google will automatically send the developer preview build to their device over-the-air. Android 7.1 Nougat Developer Preview 2 will be rolled out over-the-air over the next few days.
