Pelaez left her phone charging and was watching movies when she fell asleep. In the morning she woke up to find that her arm had pins and needles and realized that her arm was very red and was advised to visit a hospital. At the hospital, she was then told that the marks on her arm was actually a burn mark from a foreign object, and it was only when she got home she came to the conclusion that it was her iPhone.
She then took the phone to the Apple Store to report the incident. According to Pelaez, “Apple took my phone and details, but said it couldn’t have been the phone because it didn’t have a distinct smell. I then got a call from a member of the executive team who told me they were now handling the matter and had sent the phone to a senior technician in California for testing.”
It is unclear at this point as to whether the iPhone was faulty. It is possible that because she fell asleep on the phone that there was not enough air circulation to allow the phone to cool, especially if it was charging, thus leading to it overheating. However it is too early too tell but in the meantime Pelaez has refused the offer for a replacement device, claiming she does not trust it anymore.
