Another day, another prediction about the 2017 iPhones. The infamous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has predicted that all models of the 2017 iPhone will tout a glass casing as well as wireless charging. Apple’s decision to switch to a glass sandwich design has apparently been made to facilitate wireless charging. This would be the first time that Apple offers wireless charging functionality with the iPhone.
Kuo has predicted in a note to investors that he believes all iPhone models launched next year will feature a glass casing which is going to facilitate wireless charging on these smartphones.
Apple has held off on wireless charging for a very long time. Competitors like Samsung have already been offering this feature with their flagship smartphones for a couple of years now. Even Chinese OEMs are offering this feature and yet Apple has refrained from jumping on the bandwagon.
The rumor mill is also of the view that Apple is finally going to provide wireless charging functionality with its smartphones starting next year. The glass sandwich design Kuo talks about basically means that the 2017 iPhone models will have a glass front and back with all of the internals sandwiched in between, similar to what you get with the Galaxy S7.
Apple isn’t due to release the 2017 iPhones until late next year so there is still ample time for any changes to be made. Take this with a grain of salt right now because it’s far too easy to be sure of anything related to next year’s iPhones at this point in time.
