Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Box Android TV set-top box earlier this year at Google I/O 2016. The company didn’t confirm pricing and availability information about this device back then but recently a Walmart location actually started selling the set-top box even before it was formally released. Xiaomi has formally released the Mi Box in the United States today at an attractive price point of $69.
Xiaomi Mi Box is available for purchase starting today for $69 via Mi.com as well as through Walmart. It’s one of the only truly affordable Android TV set-top boxes that are available for purchase right now.
It’s a pretty capable set-top box. The Mi Box has support for content streaming in 4K UHD resolution at 60 frames-per-second as well as HDR and DTS/Dolby surround sound. Internal storage is only 8GB but it can easily be expanded externally.
The Mi Box is powered by Android TV which means it can run all of the apps and games that are available on the Google Play Store for Android TV. Customers will never be pressed for content or games on Google’s smart TV platform.
Customers will receive several incentives for picking up the new Xiaomi product. They will receive $50 in Sling TV credit, a 3 month subscription to Pandora as well as a $5 Vudu credit. The incentives are worth more than the set-top box itself combined so it’s a pretty good deal.
