During the early stages of the PS4 and Xbox One’s product lifecycle, Sony’s PS4 was outselling the Xbox One in multiple markets for consecutive months. Given that back then the Xbox One was priced $100 more than the PS4, it is easy to understand why this was happening, putting aside any differences in hardware or availability/selection of games.
Fast forward to today, we have been hearing reports that the Xbox One has been outselling the PS4 in the US and it seems that streak is continuing. According to the latest numbers released by the NPD Group, it has been revealed that the Xbox One has managed to outsell the PS4 console in the US for the third month in a row.
It has been speculated that the various price cuts Microsoft has been making for the Xbox One is to thank for the increased sales, and also the release of the slightly improved Xbox One S which managed to beat Sony’s PS4 Slim to the market. However it remains to be seen if Microsoft is able to maintain this streak.
With the PlayStation VR having been launched and also with the improved PS4 Pro launching in November, Sony certainly looks more than game enough to break Microsoft’s streak, especially when you consider that Project Scorpio from Microsoft will not be seeing the light of day until 2017.
