Back in the day, Google did not really need to market their Nexus devices that hard. Most Android owners knew that if they wanted a phone with stock Android installed on it and would be guaranteed to be the first in line for updates, they would have to purchase a Nexus. However it seems that Google will be trying extra hard with the upcoming Pixel phones.
Google is expected to officially announce the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones come 4th of October, which is this Tuesday, but it seems that many retailers just can’t seem to keep a lid on it. The latest leak comes from UK retailer Carphone Warehouse who revealed renders of the phone, along with a potential “feature”.
According to the leak, it seems that one of the features Google will be offering Pixel and Pixel XL owners is free unlimited photo and video storage at full resolution on Google Photos. At the moment Google Photos is free for all users as long as they keep their photos below a certain megapixel count, but if you’d rather not compress your images, you’d have to pay for storage.
However with the Pixel phones, Google seems to offer them free unlimited full-res storage. We can’t tell if this free storage is only free for the first year, or free for life, but it is still a tempting offer. In any case all will be revealed tomorrow so do check back with us then for the updates.
