Now to purchase bits, you’ll have to spend actual money where it costs $1.40 for 100 emotes. However if you’re adverse to the idea of paying for bits, not to worry as Twitch has announced that they will now let users Cheer Twitch streamers by sending bits without actually having to spend a single cent, and surprise, surprise, this will be accomplished through ads.
“We’ve started rolling out a new way for Twitch viewers in the US to get Bits for activity on Twitch without spending cash. In this case, the activity is watching a 30-second interactive ad.” It’s kind of like how in some games, watching/viewing an ad will give you more gold/gems/points, so it looks like Twitch has applied this concept here.
However the number of bits you earn from ads are small, so obviously it would be more efficient to buy bits if you really want them. Twitch has also ensured that viewers don’t game the system by introducing a limit on the number of ads they can view a day.
