Unfortunately it seems that this was a temporary measure because fast forward to October, Turtle Rock has announced that they will no longer be supporting the game. Note that Turtle Rock does not actually own the game, which is published by 2K Games. This means that it wasn’t their decision to stop working on the game.
“This is the life of AAA game developers who aren’t self-funded and don’t own their own IP. We don’t get to make the call. We all know that going in but we still sign the dotted line because we love what we do. We are happy to have gotten the opportunity to do something risky, something new and innovative.”
As for what this means for the game, the folks at 2K have confirmed that they will be keeping the servers for Evolve Stage 2 (the revised name for the free-to-play version) online for the foreseeable future, so gamers will be able to keep enjoying the game, but just don’t expect any updates or new content for now (or ever).
