As much as some people would like to believe that gaming on the keyboard and mouse is “superior” to that of gaming controllers, there are just some games that play so much better with a gaming controller, such as arcade style fighting games, driving games, and more. Of course Steam does support gaming controllers, but if you wanted native PS4 support, you’re in luck.
Recently during the Steam Dev Days, Valve has confirmed that native support for PS4 controllers on Steam will be coming soon. Prior to this, gamers could use the PS4’s DualShock 4 controllers with Steam, but they would have to download a separate piece of software which means that it’s not really a plug-and-play setup.
This also means that it might not always be 100% reliable and you might have to spend some time trying to configure it in order to get it working the way you want. However like we said, native support for the DualShock 4 controllers are coming soon so gamers should be able to use their controllers to play Steam games without any issue.
There is also expected to be a configuration suite in which it can help optimize the controller so that it will work better for certain games, or in some cases where games might have abnormal face button setups. No word on when this update will be released, but we’ll keep an eye out for it.
