A couple of weeks ago as a joke, a GTA 5 mod was created in which it featured the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 as a bomb which gamers could use as a weapon in the game. Given the whole Note 7 exploding fiasco and the huge recall that Samsung had to make twice, we guess it was inevitable that someone would turn it into a joke.
However Samsung isn’t too happy about it and nor are they finding it funny because it looks like they’ve been filing takedown requests with YouTube and are taking down videos that show off the mod. It is unclear as to what right Samsung has to take down the video since they do not own GTA, not to mention the creator of the mod did not copy anything either.
If anything we can only imagine that maybe Samsung is just embarrassed by the whole thing and would rather customers not remember them that way, but it does seem like a misuse of the DMCA tool. The original video has since been pulled with the message claiming that it is due to a copyright claim by Samsung.
There are still plenty of other videos around so it doesn’t look like Samsung has gotten to all of them yet, but it is clear that the company would much prefer if everyone would stop talking about it.
