Now according to a report from the New York Times, it seems that even Samsung is still clueless as to why the phones have been exploding. The report claims that they were told by their sources that even until today, Samsung’s testers have still been unable to reproduce the explosions that have been making the headlines for the past month or so.
Some seem to think that maybe the battery was never the problem to begin with. According to Park Chul-wan, former director of the Center for Advanced Batteries at the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, “It was too quick to blame the batteries; I think there was nothing wrong with them or that they were not the main problem.”
He adds, “The problem seems to be far more complex. The Note 7 had more features and was more complex than any other phone manufactured. In a race to surpass iPhone, Samsung seems to have packed it with so much innovation it became uncontrollable.” Some early investigations have suggested that maybe the design of the phone was to blame, and that Samsung’s desire to create a thinner device with curved edges could have pinched the batteries causing them to explode. Either way we’ll have sitting tight and hopefully we’ll have an official explanation soon.
