Fingerprint Sensors On US Xperia XZ & X Compact Can Be Re-Enabled

xperia_xz_2As you might have heard, the US version of the Xperia XZ and the Xperia X Compact will apparently not have fingerprint sensors. We’re not sure why this is, but this isn’t the first time Sony has done this. However it seems that the fingerprint sensors can actually be re-enabled because all Sony has done is disable them, as opposed to removing the component entirely.

This is according to a report by Xperia Blog and it was also confirmed by users on the XDA Forums. It seems that all users have to do is flash their handset to a different region, and once that has been done, users will be able to turn on the fingerprint sensor and they’ll be good to go!

You can check out Xperia Blog’s guide here if you are interested in getting the fingerprint sensor up and running on your phone. Of course since this isn’t exactly the official method, things could go wrong that Sony might not be cover under its warranty. We’re not sure why Sony has even bothered to disable the fingerprint sensor in the first place, especially since it is such a useful feature.

In any case the Sony Xperia XZ is currently available for purchase in the US, so if the lack of a fingerprint sensor put you off, hopefully with this “hack” the handset will be more compelling.
