The recall and discontinuation of the Note 7 has no doubt set Samsung back a pretty penny, so much so that we had also heard that its impact can be felt on Samsung’s other R&D projects, some of which could be halted, and some of which could be completely shelved due to an insufficient budget.
If you’re wondering what this means for the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch, apparently we don’t have to worry about it. According to a report by Tizen Experts, they claim to have heard from their “Samsung Insiders” that the fiasco with the Note 7 will not impact the launch of the Gear S3, and that it is still on track for a launch mid-November.
The smartwatch was revealed at IFA 2016 back in August but Samsung did not attach a release date to it, and if this report is accurate, we guess we finally have a date to look forward to. Of course it could launch at different times for different markets, but for now we have mid-November as a possibility so hopefully we’ll get the official details soon.
We guess it makes sense that the Gear S3’s launch isn’t affected. After all when we did our hands-on with the watch at IFA, it did seem to be pretty complete already. The report goes on to add that Samsung had initially planned to launch both the Note 7 and Gear S3 together and was even planning to bundle both devices together as a promotion, but we guess that’s out the window.
