It also seems that Nintendo could be adopting the standard, at least that’s what a report from Let’s Play Video Games seems to suggest. According to the publication’s source, they claim that Nintendo will be using USB-C for the Switch console. This is further evidenced in the photo above which is a screengrab from the official Nintendo Switch trailer. As you can see, the port below which presumably plugs into the dock looks like a USB-C port.
Now like we said, it’s not surprising that Nintendo could be adopting the new standard, but there could be reasons other than just keeping up with the times. Because of the nature of USB-C, it has been suggested that it could help to charge up the Switch quickly, which will be used to counter its alleged mediocre battery life.
Apparently the publication’s source has told them that the battery life on the Switch is less than stellar, so by offering a quicker way to recharge the console, Nintendo is hoping it will be able to offset that “flaw”. Of course all of this is still a rumor at this point in time, so take it with a grain of salt. Nintendo is expected to reveal the console in full come 12th of January, 2017.
