However it looks like Google will be making the divide even further because it has been confirmed that there will be several Android 7.1 Nougat features that will not make it into existing Nexus handsets. According to Android Police, this includes at least two features: Night Light and fingerprint swipe gestures.
According to Android Police, the reason why Night Light (which tints the screen of your phone to reduce blue light emissions at night) isn’t coming to Nexus devices is because it uses a new hardware composer interface which also requires driver support, something that existing Nexus devices do not support.
Fingerprint swipe gestures will also not be supported by existing Nexus handsets like the Nexus 6P or the Nexus 5X because the hardware used in both devices will not support it either. It is an interesting strategy by Google and one we’re not sure if it will pan out, but for now the Pixel phone’s are receiving quite a lot of praise and if their inventory is anything to go by, there is a lot of demand for the phones.
