It’s public knowledge that Microsoft is working on the next major Windows 10 update but so far the company is yet to confirm precisely when this update is going to be released. We’ve known it by its codename Redstone 2 for a long time now. Several references to “Windows 10 Version 1703” have been discovered in the latest test builds of the OS, they point towards the year and month of release, so if this is believed the next major Windows 10 update will be out in March 2017.

Microsoft has previously used the same codes for the first major update as well. The Windows 10 Anniversary Update had 1607 as its code which meant that it would be released in July 2016. Microsoft did release the first major update at the end of July this year.

The references in the recent test builds of Windows 10 were discovered by Twitter user WalkingCat. Microsoft is yet to talk about all of the new features that it’s going to introduce with Redstone 2 but it’s expected that the company will talk about the next big update at its upcoming Surface PC event later this month.

Some of the features that might be introduced include a blue light reduction feature, a HomeHub to manage smart devices as well as improvements to the Cortana digital personal assistant. Microsoft’s event has been scheduled for October 26th so hopefully we’ll hear more about Redstone 2 then.
