As software becomes more complex and advanced, it also means that our hardware also needs to upgrade to keep up with it. It used to be with 4GB of RAM would cut it, but these days we’re starting to see manufacturers offer 8GB of RAM as base. We’re also starting to see some manufacturers offer 32GB of RAM as well if needed.
However this is an option that Apple isn’t offering with its new MacBook Pros. According to a MacRumors reader, David, he decided to email Apple to ask them about it in which Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller replied by saying that it basically boils down to battery, and that 32GB would have a negative impact on it.
According to Schiller’s reply, “Thank you for the email. It is a good question. To put more than 16GB of fast RAM into a notebook design at this time would require a memory system that consumes much more power and wouldn’t be efficient enough for a notebook.” To be fair, there aren’t that many average laptop users who would need 32GB of RAM.
For those that do, we guess you’ll have to look elsewhere for it, although it would have been nice for Apple to at least offer the option. In any case the new MacBook Pros are rated at around 10 hours of battery life which isn’t too shabby.
