Netflix offers countless features to its users but there is one that many have been hoping for but the company is yet to come out with: offline mode. It’s not possible to save content from Netflix for offline viewing but there have been reports that the streaming giant is working on it. According to a new report, the Netflix offline mode is likely going to be launched before the end of this year.
Netflix is reportedly going to add the offline mode to its desktop and mobile apps by the end of this year. Dan Taitz, COO of mobile video company Penthera told Light Reading that Netflix is actively working on this feature and that this is an “open secret in the video streaming community.”
Many are likely going to take this report with a grain of salt particularly when you consider the fact that Netflix CEO Reed Hastings once said that an offline mode was “never going to happen.” He did relax his stance on the matter earlier this year when he said that he was keeping an open mind about it.
Some suggest that perhaps this feature might just be limited to Netflix’s original content which includes hit shows like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. I’m sure users won’t mind, but it will certainly be great to have the ability to watch any and all titles available on Netflix when there’s no internet connection.
