Netflix may have started out as a platform where one could easily stream TV shows and movies made by companies who have been in this business for a long time but it has evolved since then. Netflix now plays host to a lot of its own original TV shows, movies, documentaries, comedy specials, and more. Some of the most popular content on its platform happens to be its own creation, and naturally, it wants as many people as possible to check out its original content. Netflix has now inked a deal which will bring its original movies to theaters.
Netflix has reportedly signed a deal with luxury theater company iPic Entertainment which is going to bring 10 of Netflix’s original movies to theaters on the very same day they are released on the online streaming service.
iPic theaters are located in 15 markets across the United States but Netflix’s movies will initially be screened in theaters located in New York and Los Angeles. They may be expanded to other locations across the country in the future.
The report does not offer details about the financial aspects of this deal so it’s unclear what the revenue split is going to be on the tickets sold for Netflix’s original movies.
