Unfortunately apart from announcing their plans and some of their partners and also a starting price of $299, Microsoft did not dive into details about the headset, like its hardware specs, features, and so on. The good news is that those details are expected to be shared this coming December, according to a report from Polygon.
This is based on an interview with Alex Kipman who is heading up the project at Microsoft. According to Kipman, who declined to reveal more details about the headset, he did promise that more information would be made available this coming December. However he did reveal some nuggets of information, such as how the first wave of devices will have an opaque display, have a high field of view, and will require the headset to be tethered to be a computer.
Hopefully when the specs are revealed, it will prove to be competitive enough to compete some of the other PC-based headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
