Logitech has just announced what we knew was coming: some Logitech’s Harmony remote devices can now be controlled by voice via the Amazon Alexa smart speaker. This new ability is available now in the U.S and will be made available to the U.K “in the coming months,” says Logitech.
Users can now activate their television by saying “Alexa, turn the TV on,” change channels, launch apps/services (Netflix, etc…), or even manage their DVRs from Amazon’s voice interface. A complete list of commands was not immediately available, but in theory, nothing prevents every single Harmony commands from being voice-activated.
Additional details will be made available on the Logitech Harmony + Alexa support page, but here’s what Logitech said about how and who could get these new Alexa skills:
To take advantage of this new capability, launch the Alexa app on your smartphone and select Smart Home from the left-hand navigation menu, Get More Smart Home Skills, and search for ‘Harmony.’ A Logitech hub-based remote such as the Logitech Harmony Elite or Logitech Harmony Companion is required.
