What this means is that the camera is more exposed than before, which in turn could mean that it could be the first to get damaged. This is why companies like Apple have opted for sapphire as it would be more sturdy. However in LG’s case, they did not do that for the LG V20 and it seems that according to videos and user reports, some are discovering how fragile the camera glass cover is.
According to a post on Reddit, one user claims that his camera cover cracked after apparently leaving the LED flash on for too long. Another claims that his broke for no obvious reason. Now we can’t verify those claims so take it with a grain of salt, but the number of users who are reporting this problem certainly seems to suggest that maybe you might want to be more careful with your device.
That being said, we were recently invited to LG’s headquarters in Korea where they disassembled the phone in front of us (you can check out the video below). We should point out that the glass covering the camera is not the lens itself (see above photo), but acts more like a cover (similar to UV filters on traditional camera lenses). This means that the camera itself isn’t damaged, and that because it is a separate piece, replacing it should not be too difficult.
