There’s a new report which claims that Lenovo is interested in spending quite a bit of money on Fujitsu’s PC business. The Chinese giant is already the largest computer vendor in the world and if this acquisition takes place it’s going to further consolidate its position at the top of the global PC market. Nothing has been confirmed as yet but there are whispers that talks are taking place between the two companies on a potential acquisition.
According to the Nikkei Asian Review, Lenovo and Fujitsu are involved in talks concerning the acquisition of the latter’s PC division. The report mentions that both companies are aiming to clinch a deal by the end of this month.
There’s said to be a proposal that will see Fujitsu transfer its PC design, development, and manufacturing operations to a joint venture led by Lenovo. The other proposal will see Lenovo acquiring a majority stake in Fujitsu’s PC subsidiary. If a deal is reached, nearly 2,000 Fujitsu employees will be moving to Lenovo.
Fujitsu was part of deliberations last year to merge its PC business with that of Vaio and Toshiba. If that had happened the joint venture would have posed a serious challenge to Lenovo but the talks fell through.
Both companies have not commented on this report as yet so there’s no outright denial of talks just yet. Whether or not Lenovo and Fujitsu will be able to reach an agreement by the end of this month remains to be seen.
