iPhone 7’s Charging Speed Leaves A Lot To Be Desired

These days OEMs are including fast-charging technology into their phones. This means that while our phones still won’t last beyond a day or two at most, at the very least they will be able to recharge quickly so that we can get back to work ASAP. However it seems that of all the OEMs, Apple seems to be lagging behind in that department.

In a review conducted by AnandTech of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, they found that in terms of charging speed, both iPhones seem to lag behind the competition. In fact it was found that both phones lagged behind their predecessors which is odd since newer models are supposed to be better than the previous generation.

As you can see in the graph above, the iPhone 7 Plus takes 2.8 hours to charge to 100%, while its predecessor took 2.56 hours. The iPhone 7 was also found to be slower at 2.08 hours versus the iPhone 6s which took 1.94 hours. When looking at the competition, it clear how far behind the iPhones, especially when you consider that the Meizu PRO 6 takes 1.51 hours to hit 100% which is similar to the Galaxy S7 from Samsung.

To be fair, fast charging was never a feature that Apple marketed for its iPhones, although we guess it would be a nice feature to have. Also there are ways around the slow charging speeds, which is by using an iPad charger to charge the iPhone which will offer up increased speeds. If you’re wondering if it is safe, Apple’s support page does state that it is possible to do that.
