Here’s How You Can Re-enable The Chime On The 2016 MacBook Pro

macbook-pro-without-touch-barThe other day we reported that Apple for some reason or the other decided to do away with the startup chime in its 2016 MacBook Pros. Given how iconic the sound was, it was a bit odd that Apple would kill off the feature, but the good news is that it’s not really dead. In fact it’s actually more of a hidden feature that can be enabled if you so desire.

Thanks to a recent post in the MacRumors forum (via Pingie.com), it seems that it has been discovered that thanks to some lines of code entered into the Terminal app in macOS, users will be able to quickly re-enable the chime on their new laptops. The code you will need to enter is “sudo nvram BootAudio=%01” (without the quotes).

However if for some reason you decide that maybe you’d be better off not having the chime turned on, disabling it is just as easy by typing “sudo nvram BootAudio=%00” (without the quotes). The post on MacRumors also reveals that there are some other features in the 2016 MacBook Pros that you can disable if you’d like.

The laptops will boot when you open the lid or when plugged into a power source, and to disable that you can type, “sudo nvram AutoBoot=%00”, or “sudo nvram AutoBoot=%03” if you want to turn it back on (both typed without the quotes).
