As it stands, the Google Pixel phones are more or less exclusive to Verizon if you’re looking to buy the phone from a carrier. However we have heard the rumors that it will be arriving for AT&T and while that has yet to be confirmed, T-Mobile’s CEO John Legere recently posted a huge teaser on his Twitter which seems to hint that the phones could be headed for T-Mobile too.
In his tweet Legere wrote, “Tomorrow I have BIG news about @TMobile + @Google Pixel. Hint: it works great on our network!! I love it!!” If this doesn’t confirm the handset’s available on T-Mobile we don’t know what else will. It is entirely possible that maybe Legere simply means that the phone will work on T-Mobile’s network and that’s all, but that doesn’t really warrant a special announcement, does it?
We guess we shouldn’t be surprised that it could be headed for other carriers eventually since it would be a bit silly to limit it to just one carrier. At the same time we have to wonder if the restrictions on T-Mobile’s Pixel phones will be similar to that of Verizon’s, in which the bootloader will come locked and that T-Mobile will also handle the Pixel’s updates.
The bootloader should not be too much of a problem if that were to happen because last we checked, developers have successfully unlocked the one on Verizon’s Pixel so we reckon doing the same for T-Mobile should not prove to be too hard either. In any case check back with us tomorrow for the details.
