According to the post on Reddit, radiativeDoctor used a game called Cities: Skylines to recreate San Francisco in painstaking detail. For those unfamiliar, Cities: Skylines is a game about city-building, and it looks like radiativeDoctor really managed to take advantage of all the game had to offer.
“I defended my PhD last winter, had to work 14 hours a day during 3 months at the end (and a way more than 35 hours a week before and after), still I find the way to play ~1300 hours to this game.” Not only did radiativeDoctor spend 1,300 hours on the game, but the entire project also took about 200 hours to complete.
The results are amazing. If you were to hop on over to the Imgur album in which the images from the game are posted, you could be forgiven for thinking that these are images from Google Maps, or even photographs in some instances. So what do you guys think? Any San Franciscans who can vouch for the accuracy of this recreation?
