Earlier this month there were rumors that Fujitsu could be planning to sell their PC business to Lenovo, and it looks like those rumors have turned out to be sort of true. Both Fujitsu and Lenovo have confirmed that both companies are currently in talks over a possible cooperation to design and manufacture PCs, and that ideally the outcome would be that Fujitsu will continue to keep its brand.
According to Fujitsu President Tatsuya Tanaka, the goal if the alliance “is aimed at strengthening our brand and business,” and that “Scale is key to cost reduction, especially when operating globally.” Neither company has explicitly stated that they would be selling/buying parts of the business, so for now it sounds more like both companies are still exploring the possibilities of what they can both do together.
As it stands Lenovo has been the top PC vendor in the world for the past 3 years, dethroning the likes of HP who held onto that title for 6 consecutive years. It is unclear as to what will become of these talks, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
