Bootloader Unlock For Verizon’s Pixel Has Been Released

The other day we reported that it seems that some developers have figured out a way to unlock the bootloader belonging on the Verizon Pixel phones, and they teased whether or not they would release it to the public. The good news is that it looks like they have decided to, so if you own a Pixel phone bought via Verizon, you might want to check it out.

According to the post on their website, it explains the tool that they have just released. “Our software works by forecefully enabling bootloader unlocking, it does not automatically unlock the bootloader. After using dePixel8, your device will reboot into bootloader mode. You then need to run the ‘fastboot oem unlock’ command. This action will unlock the bootloader and wipe your user data.”

For those who are unfamiliar with the whole process, maybe doing a bit of research before proceeding will be a good idea lest you end up with unintended consequences. Alternatively you could wait for another method, although there’s really no telling if or when that will happen. For those who are hearing about this for the first time, the Pixel phones sold through Verizon will come with their bootloaders locked.

This means that any kind of deeper level customization that might require superuser access will be out of the question until it is unlocked. However if you choose to buy the phone from Google, they will come unlocked, but it also means that you’ll have to pay the full price upfront and figure out which carrier plan to use it with.
