One of the benefits of having a Bluetooth infotainment system is that it almost requires no action from your part. Once it’s paired, all users have to do is get in the car, turn it on, and they’re good to go. This is versus existing CarPlay systems in which users have to connect to its with a Lightning cable.However for those looking to buy a new car, BMW has recently taken the wraps off the 2017 BMW 5 Series sedan and one of the car’s new features is the fact that it has wireless CarPlay support. “CarPlay is available in the BMW 5 Series Sedan too. Integrating the smartphone into the vehicle’s system environment allows the phone, together with any apps that are on it, to be operated via the screen in the car by means of the iDrive Controller or touch control.”
According to BMW, they claim to be the first carmaker to integrate CarPlay into their vehicles without the need for cables. Wireless support was actually introduced to CarPlay back in 2015 with iOS 9, but to date there has not been any carmaker who has decided to take advantage of that feature, at least until now.
Of course having CarPlay or Android Auto isn’t really that compelling enough to be a make or break feature when choosing a car, but if you are in the market for a new car and want it to have the latest features, the latest BMW 5 Series could be worth your consideration.
