BlackBerry recently announced that it’s bowing out of the smartphone game, but not completely. The company will not be making its own devices now rather it will team up with third-party manufacturers. We’ve already seen this happen with the mid-range Android-powered DTEK50 and soon the company will announce the DTEK60. A recent retailer listing reveals that the upcoming BlackBerry handset might cost over $650.
BlackBerry hasn’t officially announced the DTEK60 but it’s not like there’s nothing that we don’t already know about it. Most retailers in the United States and Canada have already posted placeholders for the device.
The latest listing comes from MediaMarkt which is the largest retailer in Germany. It mentions that the BlackBerry DTEK60 is going to be priced at €600 which translates into just north of $650. However, smartphone pricing doesn’t actually work that way.
A lot of factors go into deciding a handset’s price for a particular market, just because the DTEK60 might cost €600 in Europe doesn’t mean the exact dollar amount will be charged to customers in the United States. Actually, the recent listing on B&H mentioned a lower price tag of $500 and that seems more realistic for this market.
BlackBerry is yet to confirm when it’s going to unveil the DTEK60.
