When Apple first announced the Apple Watch, it seemed that the company believed that they had the chops necessary to compete in the luxury watch department. So much so that they announced that the Apple Watch would be available in high-end departmental stores like the Galeries Lafayette in Paris.
However it seems that Apple’s luxury plans could be coming to an end because according to a report from French website Mac4Ever (via 9to5Mac), the Apple Watch booth/store-within-a-store inside the Galeries Lafayette could be closing down soon. The report claims that they are 99% certain that these booths will be closed come January 2017.
It also seems that Apple has been reducing the number of staff working in the store, and ultimately it is expected that the remaining staff be redeployed to other Apple Stores in the city of Paris. Apparently this is due to the poor sales of the Apple Watch, although to date Apple has yet to provide exact figures of how many devices they have sold.
Third-party analytical reports have suggested that as far as smartwatches are concerned, the Apple Watch is dominating. It also seems that Apple might have figured out that not many people are buying its $10,000 Apple Watch Edition, which is why with the Apple Watch Series 2, Apple has opted for a more affordable ceramic version in place of it.
