All of the media hype concerning exploding smartphones is revolving around the Galaxy Note 7 these days but the fact remains that any smartphone with a lithium battery can face similar issues if some conditions are met, it doesn’t necessarily need to have a battery cell defect like the Galaxy Note 7. It’s now being reported that Apple is investigating latest reports of a pair of exploding iPhone 6s Plus units.
“I heard a sizzling, then we heard the pop and the whole fire was coming out of the screen,” said Yvette Estrada, the owner of one of those exploded units, adding that the phone got so hot that it even burned two Apple Watch stands that were on the dresser.
The other incident involving this handset was reported about a week ago. A student’s iPhone 6s Plus caught fire in his back pocket while he was in class. Darin Hlavaty, the owner of that unit, said that the battery was dead and the phone wasn’t plugged in when it exploded.
Apple hasn’t commented on the matter publicly as yet and there’s no reason to believe right now that there’s a widespread battery issue with this smartphone. It’s only after the investigation has been concluded will we know what caused these iPhone 6s Plus units to explode.
