If you wanted the smart capabilities of the Amazon Echo, like Alexa, without the speaker component, there was the Amazon Echo Dot which was launched earlier this year. However just last month, Amazon followed up with a successor that improved upon the hardware and also made it cheaper.
If you’re more interested in the 2nd-generation Echo Dot, Amazon did state that it would be available starting from the 20th of October, which is today, so if you were to hit up Amazon’s website you will be able place your order. Like we said, the 2nd-gen model is cheaper than its predecessor where it costs $50 per device, versus the $90 that the previous generation cost.
Now since the Echo Dot does not come with speakers, Amazon is selling the device bundled with speakers if you’re interested. There’s a bundle with a Bose SoundLink Mini II priced at $214. There are also bundles with the Philips Hue Starter Kit which will set you back $100; one with the TP-Link Smart Plug which will cost $70; and one with the ecobee3 Smart Thermostat that will set you back $250.
Amazon is also selling packs of the Echo Dot so that you can place them around your home. If you were to buy a pack of 6, one of the Echo Dots will be free (essentially you’ll be paying for 5). There is also a 12-pack that will come with 2 free (essentially you’ll be paying for 10 Echo Dots). If this sounds like something you might be interested in, hit up Amazon’s website to place your order.
