We have seen rumors in the past that Apple might bring E Ink keyboards to MacBooks and now a major news outlet is claiming that Apple will introduce its new keyboard for notebooks with the 2018 MacBook lineup. According to a report published by The Wall Street Journal, Apple is working with Australian startup Sonder on a dynamic E Ink. Sonder is also going to launch its own Bluetooth E Ink keyboard later this year.
There’s a reason why these keyboards will be called “dynamic,” because not only will they have the conventional QWERTY layout, but they will also feature different alphabets and context-sensitive buttons for different apps and services.
The scribe claims to have heard that Apple will introduce E Ink keyboards with the 2018 MacBooks from people familiar with the plans. It also points towards another article published recently by the Guardian which claims that Apple is actually in talks to buy Sonder.
Nothing concrete has been shown or leaked yet and all of this is based on hearsay. Until there’s conclusive evidence to showcase the possibility that this might happen, it would be best to take this with a grain of salt. Then again, Apple is known for making radical leaps in technology, and an E Ink keyboard in a MacBook would certainly classify as such.
