YouTube has announced that they will be launching their own mini social network in the form of a Community tab on YouTube. What this does is that it allows creators to post updates to their followers in the form of text messages, images, and so on, thus saving them from having to create an announcement video which can be more time consuming.
According to YouTube, “The brand new Community tab on your YouTube channel gives you a new, simple way to engage with your viewers and express yourself beyond video. Now you can do things like text, live videos, images, animated GIFs and more, giving you easier, lightweight ways to engage with your fans more often in between uploads, in real time.”
Unfortunately for now the Community feature is in beta and is only limited to a handful of channels, such as John & Hank Green, to AsapSCIENCE, The Game Theorists, Karmin, The Key of Awesome, The Kloons, Lilly Singh, Peter Hollens, Rosianna Halse Rojas, Sam Tsui, Threadbanger, and VSauce3, but YouTube expects that the feature will eventually roll out to more creators over time.
