As you might have heard, Yahoo has been hit with a massive data breach that supposedly compromised about 200 million user accounts. Now if you were quick enough to change the password to your Yahoo account, you might be pleased to learn that there are some added security measures added to the Yahoo Mail app.
Now we’re not sure if the latest update to Yahoo Mail was coincidence, or if Yahoo is trying to step up its security following the breach, but the latest version of Yahoo Mail for Android sees Yahoo add support for fingerprint scanning. This means that your fingerprint will help protect your Yahoo Mail account.
However we should note that this is only applicable to the app, meaning that if you are logging in from the web there is no fingerprint security there, so make sure that you have picked a strong password that’s hard for hackers to guess. Granted we would have preferred protection on both fronts but we’ll take what we can get for now.
The fingerprint support is via Google’s Fingerprint API, meaning that as long as your device has a fingerprint scanner it should work. If you’d like to get your hands on the latest version of the app, hit up the Google Play Store for the download.
