Xiaomi Mi 5s Could Feature Qualcomm’s Sense ID Technology

Right now fingerprint security is still one of the more favored forms of biometric security. Samsung looks like they might be interested in shifting the discussion to iris scanning, but for now it’s safe to say that fingerprint scanning is still more efficient, which is why it isn’t surprising to see many companies integrate fingerprint sensors into their phone.

However for the most part, these sensors kind of stick out like a sore thumb, but the Xiaomi Mi 5s could change that. According to reports, the upcoming handset from Xiaomi is said to feature Qualcomm’s Sense ID technology. For those unfamiliar, Sense ID was debuted by Qualcomm in 2015 and it’s basically a fingerprint sensor that relies on ultrasound to read fingerprints.

What this means is that OEMs could in theory embed the sensor underneath the phone’s display, thus resulting in a phone with a sleek and unblemished chassis that will still be able to offer up fingerprint security features. In fact according to the rumors, Apple could be considering a similar technology for 2017’s iPhone.

Other rumored features of the Xiaomi Mi 5s includes the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, a whopping 6GB of RAM, a dual camera setup with sensors made by Samsung, and a pressure sensitive display. It sounds like quite the powerhouse but until it is official, take it with a grain of salt for now.
