Xiaomi Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus Officially Launched

So after several weeks of rumors and teasing, the Xiaomi Mi 5s has been officially launched. However it isn’t a single handset, but rather it is two handsets in the form of the Mi 5s and the Mi 5s Plus. Both phones appear to be relatively the same in terms of specs, save for their screen sizes in which the Plus model will have a larger display.

Looking at the phones in terms of processor, both handsets will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset. They are both packing LPDDR4 RAM, although the amount of RAM for the Mi 5s being 3GB, while the Mi 5s Plus will have 6GB. We’re also looking at UFS 2.0 for storage, with the Plus model coming with 128GB of storage.

In terms of optics, the Mi 5s will feature Sony’s 1/2.3-inch IMX378 CMOS sensor of the 12MP variety. For the Mi 5s Plus, Xiaomi seems to have taken a page out of Apple’s book by equipping it with a dual lens camera of the 13MP variety, but its sensor is the Sony IMX258, not the IMX378 used in the Mi 5s.

Interestingly enough despite it being the “Plus” model, there are some features that are omitted that would have been pretty cool. For example the Mi 5s has a 5.15-inch Full HD display that has a pressure-sensitive display, and has an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under its display. The Mi 5s Plus while being more expensive, packs a regular 5.7-inch display and a conventional fingerprint reading on the back.

In terms of pricing, the Mi 5s will be priced starting at 1,999 yuan, while the Mi 5s Plus will be priced starting at 2,299 yuan, and will be available for pre-order on the 29th of September in China.
