World Of Warcraft: Legion Sold 3.3 Million Copies On Launch Day

On the 30th of August, the latest expansion for World of Warcraft titled “Legion” was launched. Given that World of Warcraft is kind of an old game, we have to wonder with a decade behind it, how does Legion fare in terms of sales? Turns out that while Legion might not necessarily breaking records, it is still holding its own.

According to Blizzard, they have announced that Legion managed to sell 3.3 million copies on launch day. Like we said, this isn’t exactly breaking records, but it manages to at the very least match the records set by other expansions, such as Cataclysm which was launched 6 years ago in 2010.

The game is doing pretty well because last we heard, Blizzard was boasting that Legion has resulted in the highest number of concurrent players that the company has seen in awhile. Granted we’re not looking at the same numbers from the good old days when World of Warcraft was at its peak, but like we said, for a game that’s more than a decade old, it’s pretty impressive.

According to Blizzard CEO and cofounder Mike Morhaime, “It’s been a thrill to see players hunting demons, powering up Artifacts, and freely exploring all the new zones in Legion. We worked hard to make this the best World of Warcraft expansion yet, and we look forward to providing players with even more content as Legion’s epic story unfolds in the months ahead.”
