However over in China, Uber drivers have found a way to abuse the system. Reports out of China from local publications such as The Sixth Tone and NBD News are claiming that some Uber drivers have changed their profile photos to resemble ghosts/zombies in a bid to “scare” customers in cancelling their rides with them, thus earning themselves the nominal cancellation fee without having to do any work.
Uber has since confirmed that this has been happening and has told The Sixth Tone that they are “collecting all kinds of evidence and will pass them on the public security department.” The company has also assured customers that they will be eligible for refunds if they encounter such a situation and report it through the app.
We suppose in a way it is rather clever, but as with all loopholes, eventually this will be discovered and closed. We’re not sure if there will be any action taken against these drivers but we wouldn’t surprised if there were.
