Twitter today announced that it’s launching a new app for Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Xbox One. The app focuses on providing live streaming video to these devices which are normally hooked up to the biggest screen in the house. These free apps will provide users with access to all of the live streaming video content that’s available on Twitter, and there’s quite a bit of it now.
Live streams of 10 NFL Thursday Night Football games aside from content from MLB Advanced Media, NBA, Campus Insiders, Pac 12 Networks, Bloomberg News and Cheddar will be available for live streaming via the app.
Twitter content such as top tweets, top global Vines, and Periscopes will also be available for streaming via the app. The company does clarify that users don’t necessarily need to have an account on any of these services to take advantage of the live streams that this app offers.
One feature is exclusive for Apple TV where viewers will be able to watch live premium video and also stream tweeted video clips seamlessly via a side-by-side video experience. The new Twitter app for Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Xbox One is available starting today in select markets across the globe. No Twitter account or cable or satellite subscription is required to view the HD streams offered by the app.
