According to a report via ComicBook.com, it seems that Spawn’s creator Todd McFarlane told Tiffany Smith on AMC’s Geeking Out that a new Spawn movie is in the works, and that he would actually be writing the script, versus other superhero/comic book movies in which the IP is licensed out and other writers will try their hand at it.
McFarlane was quoted as saying, “I’ve finished the script, and I’m in the process of editing. It’s 183 pages, and [producers] usually like 120. I still think it’s going to end up being about 140 because I’m putting in details for myself.” McFarlane also says that this version of the movie will be very different from the version back in 1997.
Apparently despite it being a Spawn movie, the character himself will not be seen much throughout the film, but instead moviegoers will “feel” his presence. McFarlane compares it to the movie Jaws where despite not seeing much of the shark in the movie, you can still tell that it’s there. We’re not sure how this will pan out but it should be interesting nonetheless.
