Either way Samsung has a solution: push notifications. Yup, the company is expected to be issuing an update to all models of the Galaxy Note 7 in the US which will repeatedly warn users via push notifications if they haven’t returned their phones yet. It has been noted that Verizon owners have already received the update, so it shouldn’t be long until other carriers push out the update as well.
The notification, as you can see in the screenshot to the right, will let users know that they are using a potentially unsafe phone and asks them to return/exchange the phone ASAP. The update will also introduce the green battery icon which is used to denote Galaxy Note 7 phones that are safe.
Will these notifications work? There is that saying where you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t force it to drink, so if customers are dead set on not returning the phone, we guess there’s really only so much that Samsung can do from their end, save for tracking these users down in person, which actually might not be such a bad idea.
