By now some Samsung Galaxy Note 7 owners are probably feeling a little envious of those in China where last we heard, the handsets weren’t affected by the exploding batteries that caused Samsung to recall it from other markets. However it seems that is no longer the case as Samsung China has instituted a recall as well.
According to China’s consumer watchdog, Samsung China has apparently asked to recall 1,858 units of the Galaxy Note 7, which safe to say isn’t all the devices that the company has sold. Instead these devices were sold ahead of the phone’s official launch in China as part of a testing scheme by Samsung, so it is likely that these devices were the ones that were using Samsung SDI batteries.
A recent report had suggested that Samsung will no longer be using their own supply of batteries for the Galaxy Note 7. Instead Samsung will be turning to a manufacturer in China who was responsible for about 30% of the batteries inside the Note 7. In addition to the recall, China’s civil aviation authority has banned the use of the phones on flights.
Similar to moves enacted by other agencies and airline companies, passengers will not be allowed to use or charge the Galaxy Note 7 during the flight, and that the phones are not allowed to be placed in check-in luggages as well.
