“Seventy-four days after rocketing to the top of the U.S. App Store’s Top Grossing chart for iPhone, Niantic’s Pokémon GO has ended its run as the highest grossing app in the country. The game was dethroned by Supercell’s Clash Royale, which took over the top spot after a content update that sent players into a spending frenzy.”
As per Sensor Tower’s data, Pokemon GO’s run at 74 days actually puts it in third place. The app that managed to take the cake is Clash of Clans which ran for a whopping 347 days, which is a pity as it was pretty close to making it an entire year. Coming in second is Candy Crush Saga at 109 days.
Clash Royale managed to enjoy a run of 32 days, so it will be interesting to see how long they will be able to go for before the next app takes its place. Pokemon GO’s dethronement shouldn’t be a surprise. Recently it was revealed that nearly 80% of the game’s paid players have stopped paying/playing, so there’s definitely a good chance it had an impact on the charts.
