Sony is conducting a press event in New York to talk about some new hardware and it has finally made its worst-kept secret official. We’ve seen leaked images and even videos of a slim PlayStation 4 for over a month now and today Sony finally announced the PlayStation 4 Slim. As the name suggests, this is just the original PS4 console that went on a diet. The company has also confirmed the PS4 Slim release date and price today.
This is pretty much the same PlayStation 4 console that Sony released around three years ago. The company is announcing another PS4 version today that has all the hardware improvements. Like I mentioned before, this is just the original PS4 that’s lighter and thinner.
PlayStation 4 Slim comes with a slightly updated DualShock 4 controller which now has a redesigned light bar that’s visible from the front. These are just about the extent of the changes that have been made to the PlayStation 4 Slim. Clearly, the idea here was to provide the same experience in a smaller package, and Sony has delivered on that nicely.
Sony has announced today that the PlayStation 4 Slim is going to be released in “most markets” on September 15th. Folks in the United States will have to pay $299 to pick one up.
