Back in August, Blizzard announced that they would be rolling out high bandwidth servers for gamers on the PC. In case you missed the announcement, basically this initiative by Blizzard is meant to improve the multiplayer experience for gamers, meaning that there should be less instances where players protest that they made it to safety before being shot.
The good news is that it looks like those servers are now live and PC gamers should be able to take advantage of it. It also brings the game’s low tick rate of 21hz to that of 63hz, which obviously is a huge difference and gamers should be able to feel the improvements. That being said, gamers would need a good connection in order to truly take advantage of it.
However for gamers that don’t, Blizzard notes that they will simply adapt and scale down your update rate accordingly. “Since we know that not all internet connections are equal, we’ve also added in tech that will automatically and adaptively scale down your update rate if we find your connection can’t keep up.”
In any case if you’d like to learn more about the high bandwidth update, check out the video above in which Overwatch’s developers explain the feature further.
